Hey everyone I'm very appreciative of you taking the time to look at my art and getting to know me better. I've always had a deep love for wildlife and being outdoors. Since I was 5 years old I had plans of working with wild animals, I first said I wanted to be a wildlife veterinarian. As I got older my aspirations shifted to pursuing wildlife biology, then as a teenager, I found photography. Photography was the perfect mix of creative expression and wildlife study that I craved. To be able to photograph wildlife I had to learn their habits, preferred habitats, activity patterns and more. I then decided to wanted to be a wildlife photographer.
After high school I decided to continue my education at the University of British Columbia to pursue a major in Biology. During my undergraduate degree I worked at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Summerland Research Center learning about how disease is transferred between plants by insects. I conducted volunteer work with an master' student to survey potential Western Screech Owl habitat and tag owls. I participated in the university Wildlife Society, and I was the president of the university's Photography Club for 2 years. I was determined to find all the experiences available to me that would help me achieve my goal of becoming a wildlife photographer. In my final year of study, I was lucky enough to be accepted to do an Honours project studying scavenging bird activity by analyzing photographs from camera traps. In partnership with the Southern BC Cougar Project I am currently turning my Honours project into a manuscript for publication in a scientific journal. If you would like to read more about my experience working with the Southern BC Cougar Project click here.
As I finish up the last of my research at UBC my goal is to expand my photography business. I would like to not only continue taking breath-taking photos but to help others learn about our environment by combining scientific research with photography.
